A resident of Charlotte County, North Carolina, in the United States, received a bill of $ 21,000 after consulting doctors about the bite of a stray cat. This was reported by the local newspaper WSOC TV.
A woman named Christy Driscoll encountered a cat on her front porch twice. The animal was quite friendly the first time around, but returning a month later the cat reacted aggressively to the woman and bit her, which left four teeth marks and bruises on her body.
The woman, who applied to the emergency department with a request to give antibiotics, also received advice for rabies prophylaxis.
“I was in complete shock when a series of exams that included ambulance visits and they gave me three injections ended,” Christie Driscoll said.
According to him, he received a $21,000 bill and had to pay $5,000 of it immediately.
As the newspaper points out, the county’s health department doesn’t really vaccinate against rabies: the first few injections of the preventive course should be done in the emergency room, and for the next you can contact the family doctor.
Christy Driscoll reached out to county officials to resolve the issue.
“It would be terrible if someone were bitten by a wild animal, and she thought: ‘Oh my God, I can’t afford that,’ the woman admitted.
