Buckingham Palace has reached an agreement with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to exempt them from rent for Frogmore Cottage, as it had previously paid the British treasury £2.4m for the building’s renovations with taxpayer money. It has been reported daily mail.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a £2.4m payment to the Sovereign Grant fund to cover the cost of a major overhaul of Frogmore Cottage. They have fulfilled their financial obligations to the property. In accordance with the routine practice of the Sovereign Grant, a comprehensive audit of the accounting records was carried out by the National Audit Office. Buckingham Palace said that, as with all tenant-landlord relationships, other details regarding rental arrangements with the Dukes of Sussex would be treated as private.
The rent for the cottage was to be between £150,000 and £230,000 per year. However, the lease that expired in March of this year will not be renewed.
Frogmore Cottage has been declared the residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after their wedding, which they moved into after a lengthy renovation. After the Dukes announced in early 2020 that senior members of the British royal family were giving up their duties and powers, Buckingham Palace announced that they would pay rent commercially. But they soon paid £2.4m in compensation for the budgetary costs of the repairs.
Buckingham Palace’s final decision, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s, King III. He made a decision deprive them of this dwelling.
