Nike and Puma abandon kangaroo leather for soccer shoes 12:58

Sportswear brands Nike and Puma will no longer use kangaroo leather for their boots. It has been reported hypebeast.

Just two weeks after PUMA announced it would be phasing out kangaroo leather boots this year, Nike made a similar announcement that they are phasing out the use of “K-leather” for Tiempo football boots. According to a statement by Footwear News, Nike is divorcing its sole kangaroo leather supplier in 2021, ending the production of kangaroo leather products and replacing it with a proprietary synthetic material.

In early 2023, Oregon passed a bill that would soon ban the sale of any kangaroo parts or products based on them. Since Nike’s headquarters in Beaverton is located in this state, the new decision could have played an important role in that decision.

Kangaroo leather is a common cleat material used in high-end models such as the Nike Tiempo 9 Elite, adidas Predator Pulse and Puma KING.
