Endocrinologist Barteneva called the signs of iron deficiency in the body 21:38

Symptoms of iron deficiency in the human body can range from persistent fatigue, dry skin, and changes in taste preferences. Anna Barteneva, an endocrinologist and nutritionist at the Nearmedic clinic in Simonovsky Val, told socialbites.ca about this.

“Complaints accompanying this condition are very diverse and not specific. There can be both constant fatigue, weakness, reduced performance and dry skin, hair loss and brittleness, as well as a change in taste preferences, susceptibility to infections and much more, ”said Anna Barteneva.

According to the endocrinologist, it is necessary to have a complete blood count, ferritin and iron tests to be sure of iron deficiency. However, it is not recommended to independently interpret the results and take medication – the situation should be evaluated by a doctor.

As Barteneva points out, iron deficiency is now very common “especially among the female population.”

“About 37% of the population in the world has a shortage of supply, in Russia this figure is 20%. Iron deficiency is not only anemia (i.e., decreased hemoglobin levels), but also a decrease in iron stores in the body,” explained the doctor.

He remembered that the physiological need for iron for an adult man is 10 mg – 18 mg for a woman.
