Demonic beings are part of the collective imagination and popular culture through the horror genre, but we must not forget that they are a practice that has its roots in ancient times. There are many films that tackle this dual aspect, using reality as a way to introduce us to a universe where indoctrination and religious fanaticism go hand in hand. Scott Derrickson applied this ambivalence in the wonderful ‘Exorcism of Emily Rose’, opposing reason and the possibility of evil amongst us. something similar happens ’13 exorcisms’, based on a recent case in space and time, in which a teenager is subjected to a series of physical and psychological tortures to exorcise his inner demon.
Jacobo Martínez is making his directorial debut with a film. in its first part, it has the ability to create the right dose of suggestion and bad vibes, perhaps because we are entering the mental realm of the protagonist (extraordinary María Romanillos)in her adolescent soul, which carries the pressure and guilt inherited from her parents. However, as the plot progresses, perspective blurs. and we see the utensils from the outside, so that the balance between reality and fantasy is lost, because one cannot bet on this or that. The climax is hasty and confusing, throwing aside the successes of its disturbing beginning.
