In 1917, women workers at Doyle & Walker Ammunition replace their husbands, fathers, and brothers in the factory that arms the front-line army. During World War I, Rosalyn, Violet, Olivia and their teammates find a forgotten ball on a playground and begin to play. Over time they refine the game and someone offers to form a real league. With no men’s championships available, these early women’s football teams enjoy a radiant season that captures the public imagination. Yet when the war ends, men’s football authorities resist the idea of women reclaiming the field, insisting they return to their traditional place.
Inspired by the true story of the first women’s football teams in the UK, Women’s Football Club brings to life Stefano Massini’s work, adapted for the stage as a musical and directed by Sergio Peris-Mencheta.
The phenomenon of women’s football began in England during the Great War. Female workers from factories built teams that quickly earned affection from the public, while provoking hostility from established men’s football institutions.
This production, Pirate Ship, earned four Max Award nominations and features eleven actresses who recount this remarkable story, which audiences and critics across Spain celebrated last year.
Direction and adaptation: Sergio Peris-Mencheta.

Clara Sanchis appears in A Room of One’s Own. INFORMATION
a room of its own
a room of its own imagines a dialogue between Virginia Woolf and today’s audience. The speech remains witty and provocative, carried by live music that has become a stage classic. As controversial as it is celebrated, the author’s ideas continue to resonate a century later, and feminism remains a central theme and a jewel of world literature.
This contemporary presentation blends imaginative storytelling with humor, flowing like a river into some of the most enduring thoughts on women’s roles in society. Woolf’s work is framed as a social revolution occurring alongside the expansion of voting rights nine years prior. The question lingers: what if the most discussed creature in the universe is women?
