HE Thunder Festival reinforces itself as a reference for experimental music and will celebrate its seventh edition this Saturday at Las Cigarreras in Alicante. The lineup includes Dhansha, Amsia, Buildthenburnt, and Javier Piñango. This festival was selected in the Ministry of Culture’s public call for 2023 subsidies supporting cultural and arts projects, underscoring its commitment to avant-garde art within the region.
Purpose of Thunderous Fest is to gather a broad spectrum of hard-to-find artistic voices under one roof, spanning concert venues and intimate entertainment spaces. The event serves as a glue for artists and audiences to connect over shared artistic concerns. Attendees can expect performances in experimental electronic music, electro-acoustic work, noise, live performance, and visual arts. The festival offers artists a stage where they can take risks and push boundaries without the usual constraints.
Following the successful previous editions that drew many artists from the Spanish experimental scene and last year’s edition that featured an international act, Container, this seventh edition showcases a strong international presence from the United States and promises to be one of the most complete to date. The initiative also partners with Cervezas Alhambra, which participates in the celebrations to offer memorable moments that accompany the performances and artworks.
Artists confirmed this year include Dhangsha (an international artist), Amsia, Buildthenburnt, Javier Piñango, and the dance show MUD, compiling a poster of national and international experimentation and noise on the scene.
Cultural Council Member Nayma Beldjilali speaks about the event: “The aim is to invite all lovers of experimental music to Cigarreras on Saturday afternoon for a unique gathering where artists and the public come together to create a different atmosphere. The public plays a vital role in this festival, and their participation is encouraged.”
Competition Noise Wall
This year, as an innovation within the scope of Atronador Fest, the world’s first Noise Wall Competition will open to participating artists. Each entrant can create a one-minute audio wall, using up to ten minutes of setup time for assembling instruments, microphones, effects, and any tools necessary to shape the sound. A panel of judges will assess the entries, with one official overseeing the voting process. The winner receives a 500 euro prize and the potential to participate in next year’s festival, with full information available through the event’s official channels. In this rewrite, a formal description is used to outline the process and criteria for participation.
All festival information, including programs and registration, is available through the festival’s official channels and social networks, with current updates provided by event organizers.
