Public opening hours:

Across the late summer season, Alicante hosts a distinctive exhibition that blends humor with a rich dialogue on science. From August 4 to September 11, visitors will encounter a curated selection of vignettes by Antonio Forges, known as Forges, alongside a graphic journey that traces the evolving story of research. The display invites guests to see science not just as data and experiments, but as a living narrative that intersects everyday life with the frontiers of knowledge.

Antonio Forges, widely recognized for his witty sketches about daily life, repeatedly draws on themes of science and technology in his short narratives. The exhibition presented here gathers a collection of his most memorable pieces and pairs them with context about the Scientific Research Council, CSIC, a central symbol of public research in Spain. Science according to Forges is the name given to this show, which stitches together humor and science to reveal how research touches ordinary existence and shapes public perception.

The intention behind the display is to serve as a window into discovery, curiosity, and a clearer understanding of what science and research can contribute to society. In noting the educational impact of Forges’ work, the local cultural leadership highlights how his humor broadened the reach of scientific ideas. The exhibit emphasizes accessible storytelling that makes complex topics approachable for a wide audience, encouraging a more informed view of how knowledge is created and applied in everyday life.

What visitors will see is a careful arrangement of drawings whose central thread is science. The artist, Forges himself, used his drawings to acknowledge the place of science in culture, sometimes venturing into critique while maintaining a light, approachable tone. The collection speaks to the public not only through aesthetics but through ideas—how research is funded, how discoveries are communicated, and how scientists engage with communities to share findings that matter to daily living.

The exhibition is produced under the auspices of CSIC, with support and collaboration from partners that include the CSIC General Foundation, the Antoni Esteve Foundation, and the Quevedo Institute for the Arts of Humor. The show has traveled to several cities previously, including Valladolid, San Sebastián, Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia, and this Alicante edition continues a broader conversation about science in public life. The frame is not merely a retrospective; it is a living curatorial project that invites reflection on how humor can illuminate the process of scientific inquiry, the challenges of research, and the potential benefits for society at large.
