More than 12,000 people participated in events planned in the loop from July 7 to August 15, enjoying 21 free performances created in Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Alicante. Most shows took place in the plaza, with standout moments in dance and flamenco led by the hosting company. Highlights included a July 15 appearance by Neira & Santamaria and a pair of performances on August 12 that combined theatre and aerial dance on a side stage.
Across the 21 acts, nine concerts featured the Alicante Municipal Symphony Band, four showcased town music ensembles such as SCD Carolinas Group, Ciudad de Asís Musical Union, La Amistad de Villafranqueza Musical Society, and L’Harmonia Musical Society of Alicante. The remaining eight performances spotlighted local groups delivering jazz, blues, indie pop, tango, dance and aerial dance from Alicante and its surroundings. All performances were free. Excluding Municipal Symphony Band members, the lineup included 105 participants, including musicians and performers from Alicante and the province. Each show was designed to welcome audiences of up to 450, with an additional roughly 200 observers viewing from various vantage points around Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Access to the Municipal Symphony Band concerts followed a first come, first served policy, while the other performances were accessible through the Eventbrite platform.
Concert at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Alicante
Power cycle
The Cultural Advisor Nayma Beldjilali emphasized strong participation in the summer music cycle and highlighted its role in supporting the ambitious cultural mission undertaken by the Alicante City Council. The program aims to reach audiences of all ages and musical tastes and to showcase the talents of Alicante artists in an environment like Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where acceptance grows year after year. The advisor also indicated plans to continue the cycle in 2024 and welcomed residents and visitors who seek to join a regular audience that keeps expanding.
From La Concha to Town Hall Square, the program sustains a powerful cultural legacy. Its roots trace back to concerts once held in the auditorium near the Esplanade. Since 2021 the series has moved to Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the cycle operates in partnership with the Ministry of Social Welfare and Public Rights, is directed by Begoña León, and receives sponsorship from the Alicante Provincial Assembly. These collaborations help sustain a vibrant cultural corridor that blends formal municipal support with community participation and artistic experimentation.
