Palau Altea Viewpoint Room
Carrer d’Alcoi 18, Altea. Opening: Friday, January 13 at 20:00. From 16:30 to 19:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays until March 13.
In Sala Mirador del Palau Altea, Labad presents around thirty works under the title The Order of Beauty. The Basque-born artist focuses on the poetics of the female figure through a distinctive abstract vision in his painting.
Thirty oil-on-canvas works, unpublished and original by Labad (Bilbao, 1940) created between 2019 and 2021, mark his eight-decade journey in art, a period that coincides with the pandemic.
Across various themes and titles, the artist recalls the classical lineage of the old masters and uses it as a source of inspiration to reclaim a place in time. The works emphasize aesthetic order, beauty, symmetry, and harmony as guiding principles.
The artist carries a long, 57-year professional career and a deep dedication to art. Known for figures, landscapes, and objects, Labad’s lines tend to be meticulous, colors pale and precise, with compositions that feel serene yet sharp. Beauty appears as something ethereal and calm, leaning toward abstraction with an elegant minimalist spirit. The artist’s personal stamp is evident, always supported by technique honed over many years.
Labad was born in Bilbao in 1940. In 1979 he settled with his family in Altea, where he established his studio and rooted his life. Since then, he has lived and worked in the L’Olla neighborhood.
Architecture and art in the works of Pepe Ros
Angel Castaño Art Space (ACAS), Plaza de Sant Joan 1, Elche. Opening: Saturday, January 14 at 20:00. From Wednesday to Saturday 11:00 – 14:00 until February 12.
Pepe Ros, a multidisciplinary artist from Elche, trained in Architecture at the University of Valencia, merges architectural concepts with artistic creation. The Art and Tectura exhibition explores the link between architecture and painting through abstract expressionism.
ACAS notes that Ros’ work seeks ideas through artistic expression, exploring the painting process and embracing freedom to dig deeper. He experiments with supports, pigments, and materials, capturing a personal sense of reality through sensations and bold strokes.
Their program emphasizes quick, expressive pictures that seek support and freshness through pigment interplay, moving from abstract expressionism toward a spectrum of color, texture, and glaze. Ros’ painting is realized in action as he paints, faces the canvas, and communicates through abstraction, inviting viewers to feel the plastic impressions created by color and form.
