Olivia Wilde is set to direct the television adaptations of Jennifer Egan’s acclaimed novels A Visit from the Cutthroat Squad and The Candy House. The project is reported to be moving forward with Wilde directing and serving as an executive producer, and A24 is lined up to broadcast the series.
A Visit from the Cutthroat Squad, which earned a Pulitzer Prize in 2011, is a treasury of 13 interlinked stories rooted in the world of rock music. The narratives weave together a cast of characters who orbit Benny Salazar, the head of a major record company, and his right-hand partner Sasha. The Candy House’s 2022 sequel revisits some familiar faces from the first book, expanding the intertwined universe for a new generation of viewers.
Wilde’s directorial debut in feature films came in 2019, after an earlier stretch of short film work and an acting career. Her first feature, Education, earned the British Academy Film Award for Best Screenplay and drew strong critical praise for its storytelling. She later directed the psychological thriller Don’t Worry, Sunshine, starring Florence Pugh, further establishing herself as a versatile filmmaker with a distinctive voice.
