New Mexico Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey has dispatched a letter to the judge overseeing the Alec Baldwin case, requesting a reconsideration of the decision to drop charges against the actor. The request was reported by the Associated Press (AP).

Earlier in July, the court blocked the case from being reopened, citing concerns about misuse of information by police and prosecutors who had withheld evidence. It was revealed that the ammunition involved in the incident was logged under a different case number than the Rust shooting, preventing Baldwin’s defense team from accessing that evidence (AP).

In his appeal, Morrissey argued that Baldwin’s rights were not violated during the hearing and asserted that the judge lacked sufficient evidence to warrant dismissal of the case.

The incident occurred on the Rust set in 2021 when Baldwin discharged a live round while filming. The projectile struck and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, while director Joel Souza sustained injuries but was released from the hospital several hours later (AP).

The Baldwin case was halted in July 2024. Since then, the actor has expressed intentions to sue Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza and Kari Morrissey for allegedly withholding evidence in a way that favored the defense, according to ongoing reporting (AP).

In related remarks, there was a tangential reference to the earnings and finances of a separate figure, noting a question about how much has been spent on lawyers over a career, though this appears unrelated to the core legal proceedings (AP).
