Nationalization Debate Over The Master and Margarita Film

In a Telegram conversation, State Duma Deputy Mikhail Delyagin expressed a provocative position regarding the film titled The Master and Margarita directed by Mikhail Lokshin. He suggested that if the filmmaker accepted funding from sources he despises and expressed visible support for Ukraine’s armed forces while discrediting Russia in public, the state should consider nationalizing the project. The deputy argued that nationalization could translate into a financial windfall for the treasury and for citizens, especially if profits could be redirected toward national interests instead of the filmmaker’s preferences. He implied that public money used to create the film should serve the broader public good, rather than support a director who he believed harbored anti-Russian sentiments.
