Morgenstern Fine Upheld in Foreign Agent Case – Moscow Court Review

A court has approved a fine against rapper Alisher Morgenstern, who is labeled a foreign agent in the Russian Federation. This update comes via the Telegram channel of Moscow courts of general jurisdiction.

The Moscow City Court said it is reviewing the appeal against the Savyolovsky District Court of Moscow’s ruling in Morgenstern’s administrative offense case. The district court had fined the artist 40 thousand rubles.

The higher court retained the original decision, and the applicant’s objection was not granted.

The 40 thousand rubles fine marks Morgenstern’s first penalty for failing to disclose his status as a foreign agent in online posts. Across three offenses, the singer has faced penalties as he has repeatedly challenged the actions taken against him.

The move to designate the musician as a foreign agent in May 2022 followed political posts on his Telegram channel and YouTube videos. Reports indicate that from 2020 to 2022 he received more than 29 million rubles from Yoola Labs Ltd, a company registered in Israel.

Earlier, Zepyur Brutyan commented on her father’s arrest in related coverage with sources noting the ongoing legal proceedings and public interest surrounding Morgenstern’s case. (Source attribution: Moscow courts and official court communications.)
