Five individuals face trial in connection with the death of American actor Matthew Perry. The information comes from a report by the Associated Press, citing Prosecutor Martin Estrada.
Investigators believe Perry, who died from a ketamine overdose, was overmedicated by two doctors, Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez, while Perry’s assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, is accused of intentionally overdosing the actor.
Estrada stated, “These defendants exploited Mr. Perry’s drug addiction issues for their own financial gain. They were aware that what they were doing was wrong.”
The civil action names the doctors and the actor’s assistant, along with a local drug dealer referred to as the “Ketamine Queen of Los Angeles,” Jaswin Sangha, and drug supplier Eric Fleming. It is also asserted that Iwamasa procured ketamine illegally from them.
Earlier reporting indicated that Perry had obtained drugs through the same network linked to the ketamine trade in Los Angeles.
Recordings and testimony in the Perry case have shown that investigators will weigh prior overdose incidents in other high-profile cases, including those involving rapper Mac Miller and singer Michael Jackson, as part of their consideration of criminal charges.
