The box office for Mikhail Lokshin’s film The Master and Margarita climbed toward the fiscal milestone of one billion rubles, as reflected in data published on the Unified Federal Automated Information System for information on movie screenings in theaters (UAIS).
As of the evening, the film had accumulated 994.5 million rubles in gross receipts.
The film, adapted from Mikhail Bulgakov’s celebrated novel, had its premiere earlier in the year. In its debut weekend, it grossed a substantial 415 million rubles. The principal roles are portrayed by Evgeny Tsyganov and Yulia Snigir, who are married in real life. On screen, the character Woland is brought to life by German actor August Diehl, noted for Inglourious Basterds, while Pontius Pilate is played by Danish actor Claes Bang, known for Kare, Varyag, and the Dracula series. The role of Yeshua is assumed by Aaron Vadovoz, who previously appeared in King’s Beginning.
In the days following, Russia’s rental market continued to favor The Master and Margarita, placing it in the number one position. The comedy End of Glory followed in second place with a gross of 128.7 million rubles. Third went to Bremen Town Musicians with 71.1 million rubles in receipts.
Fourth was Klim Shipenko’s film Slave 2, which earned 69.7 million rubles, while the comedy I’m a Bear closed the top five with a gross of 59.6 million rubles.
