Marvel Studios has paused filming on The Thunderbolts due to a writers strike. The production crew was first announced on May 25.
Filming was planned to start about three weeks later in Atlanta. Insiders indicate that the studio intends to resume work on The Thunderbolts once the strike concludes.
The project is directed by Jake Schreier, with Eric Pearson and Lee Sang Jin co-writing the screenplay. The cast includes Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Olga Kurylenko, and Harrison Ford.
On May 2, writers across the United States walked off the job after negotiations with movie studios stalled over employment terms. The strikers advocate for better provisions in contracts in light of the growing demand for scripts tailored to streaming platforms.
Earlier, production on Blade featuring Mahershala Ali faced delays linked to writer protests. The strike has also impacted other high-profile projects, including The Lord of the Rings series, the final season of Stranger Things, the Game of Thrones prequel, and the second season of The Last of Us, among others.
