There will not be a full museum night, but an opportunity to visit in moonlight after dinner. MARQ is making a difference again and will stay open from 1 July. It opens from 10:00 to 11:00. This bold plan in Spain expands the city’s cultural offerings for the summer season.
With this new program, by September 18 there will be thirteen hours available for guided tours of the implanted rooms. From the Alicante Archaeological Museum, tours will run Tuesday through Sunday during the peak tourist period and alongside the Gladiators exhibition, Roman Heroes.
Guided visits will take place in the afternoon from 18:30 to 21:30.
“We aim to preserve the concept of a night museum, offering a MARQ day and night experience. It is a pioneering move in Spain and likely beyond, as no similar project has been launched in other European museums of comparable character”, stated the MP for Culture, Julie Parra, together with museum director Manuel Olcina during the initiative’s unveiling; José Alberto Cortes, director of the MARQ Foundation, and José Lloret, representative of Hispania Romana, were also present.
For Parra, this initiative represents collaborative efforts to give visitors an added attraction and create value for government and the tourism industry.
MARQ shows the most authentic face of gladiators
In this context, the deputy emphasizes that the new programs are fully compatible with other tourist options, complementing sun and beach offerings. The goal is to invite locals and visitors to MARQ, a cultural jewel the region is proud of, while affirming that culture is an essential element of the healing process and the economy.
With unanimous support from the MARQ Foundation Board of Trustees, the new program will be effective from 1 July. The site and monuments will be open 9:00–13:00 and 18:00–21:00, closing at noon to avoid peak sun hours.
Also, on the occasion of Nit de Blanc 2022 celebrated on July 15, MARQ opened for a day of celebration from 18:00 to midnight.
summer activities
The MARQ Foundation’s executive committee and Board of Trustees present a summer activities program and an international exhibition on gladiators. Colosseum Heroes will take place both in the MARQ gardens and at the Lucentum archaeological site, featuring historical recreations with live demonstrations. The Roman Hispania Association will participate.
Eight representations were planned in total, starting July 16 and running through October. Activities will include classical Roman era performances and wrestling shows. Reservations are required via the MARQ website or through authorized phone numbers.
Julia Parra highlighted that the gladiators exhibition has already welcomed more than 30,000 visitors since opening on April 13.
