Irish actor Liam Neeson has publicly criticized his countryman UFC fighter Conor McGregor, alleging that McGregor has brought embarrassment to Ireland, as reported by Variety.
McGregor stands among the world’s highest paid athletes and remains the first UFC champion to hold titles in two weight classes at the same time. Yet Neeson contends that McGregor’s public image could be a source of harm for the nation he hails from.
In discussing the athlete, the actor known for Schindler’s List did not shy away from harsh words, describing McGregor with a dismissive label as a little leprechaun2.
“I can’t stand the UFC because of its brutal nature and the culture of constant fighting,” Neeson remarked. “Athletes train hard and deserve respect for their athletic discipline, but McGregor represents a disgrace to Ireland, in my view.”
