Artist Eduardo Lastres relocates his studio to the Fish Market Alicante with the aim of bringing the process of making his artworks closer to the public. To achieve this, he established his workspace beside the municipal exhibition hall where his latest show is housed. He will be living in different places until March 24.

This project invites visitors to step into the exhibition space through the creative process and observe an artist’s workshop in full motion: painting, sculpture, and collage materials, brushes, rollers, canvases, woods, and trials across various media and disciplines. In this setup, art is examined from a fresh angle, prioritizing the journey of creation until a piece reaches its finished form.

Lastres will welcome guests from 19:00 to 21:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, while the venue remains open at other times so people can watch new works emerge from the impromptu studio. This innovative approach responds to a tangible gap in public knowledge about how artists from different fields, such as painting and sculpture, spend their time in creation. It also reveals the elements and materials involved in realizing each part of a work.

The significance of this concept lies in fostering dialogue with the audience through active participation. The project offers a space for visitors to connect directly with the artist, observe the work in progress, share ideas, and engage in the creation of new pieces that will remain in the room until the exhibition concludes. It is a path to make art more visible and understandable. The artist emphasizes that such direct exchanges are especially important amid debates about contemporary art.

As part of the dialogue, visitors will learn about the artist’s books and catalogs, and partake in conversations about the motivations behind the work. Descriptions will be enriched with in-room videos that explain the artist’s directions and creative concepts. The artist notes that this communicative project with the audience can be enriching for both sides, fostering closeness to reveal what art is for and why it exists.

The sculptor also explained that during the workshop, groups such as musicians, poets, and photographers will present and discuss topics related to culture and the arts.

life support

Your workshop will accompany Exhibition I live in different places. This is the title Lastres gave to a show that gathers nearly fifty works, almost all of which are new or have not been shown before, with many created in the prior year to mark life after a difficult period. Curated by María José Gadea, the gallery remains open to the public through March 24.
