Kino is set to unveil its first new album since 12_22, a project that breathes new life into 18 tracks featuring Viktor Tsoi. A Russian newspaper report confirms the revival and the fresh collection of songs.
Among the repertoire, 16 songs appear in studio form, while two tracks, Cuckoo and Watch Yourself, are presented in live renditions. The recordings span a decade, created between 2012 and 2022. The album preserves the original vocal presence of Viktor Tsoi, and new instrumental arrangements are performed by Kasparyan, Titov, and Tikhomirov, musicians who have returned to Kino for this release.
Additionally, the disc includes rare songs that have not appeared on any Kino album before, such as Ataman and Pines on the Seashore, expanding the band’s catalog with overlooked gems.
The release event for the album, titled 12_22, took place on December 22 at the Gorbunov Palace of Culture in Moscow and continued with a show on December 24 in St. Petersburg. A subsequent presentation is planned at the Sound Club in Saint Petersburg.
Kino took shape in the 1980s, with Viktor Tsoi at its core as founder and frontman. He wrote the lyrics and music for nearly all the band’s tracks, shaping a distinctive sound that continues to resonate. The album release was publicly acknowledged in November 2022, marking a renewed interest in the group’s enduring legacy.
