The media cycle around Ivan Urgant, the well known TV presenter and actor, intensified this week as reports surfaced that a return to Channel One’s airwaves might be expected soon. Urgant, who also stars as a familiar face on entertainment programs, was questioned at the Moscow premiere of the film “Challenge” about a possible revival of his broadcast career. The premiere took place on April 12, a date chosen to coincide with Cosmonautics Day, and the gathering included discussions about the show’s future. Urgant did not shy away from the possibility, saying plainly that he would be back on air. Channel One, for its part, has not yet issued an official statement addressing whether the Evening Urgant program will resume.

Earlier in the week, on April 10, Urgant shared a clip on social media showing him participating in a street parade. In the video, he plays a melody on a bright yellow piano, while the location remains unclear. Observers noted that several South Korean flags appear in the background, suggesting a possible international backdrop or simply a festive setting.

In recent years, Urgant has been at the center of political and cultural conversations. He publicly condemned Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, and rumors about relocation abroad began circulating in the media. Urgant himself indicated that he had taken a vacation afterward, with some reports pointing to Israel as a possible destination.

Rename to SHIT

In August 2022, Urgant was placed on a list described as foreign influential agents by an initiative group linked to anti Russian activities in culture. The group originated from a political party coalition. Urgant responded to the group’s call for his dismissal from Channel One with a provocative suggestion. He proposed withdrawing all Paul McCartney albums from free sale except for the album that some saw as a symbolic nod, Back to the USSR. He also suggested that the group rethink its acronym, arguing that GRAD did not adequately reflect the scale of the challenges faced, jokingly offering SHIT as an alternate acronym for an enemy detection initiative.

The Whole Team Together

February last year marked a turning point for the popular entertainment show Evening Urgant, which paused broadcasts on Channel One as the network adjusted its schedule in response to the current military operation in Ukraine. Channel One later clarified that the decision was not about canceling Urgant but about restructuring the air lineup, with the program’s debuts temporarily replaced by socio political programming.

Urgant revealed that a planned concert at Urban Club was canceled in January 2023, describing the cancellation as a surprise. By February, he posted a photo from within the Evening Urgant studio with the caption that the entire team was gathered, signaling ongoing collaboration and readiness. In March, Urgant announced a forthcoming performance in Turkey, part of the Holidays with Bi-2 festival in Kemer on April 20. Reports also indicated appearances at private corporate events abroad, underscoring a renewed schedule of engagements for the entertainer.
