Edge of the World Festival in Kaliningrad Faces Funding Gap

Film festival Edge of the World has been held in Kaliningrad since 2019, presenting a platform for regional and international cinema. In 2023 the event West in 2023 was canceled due to insufficient federal funding. TASS reported that the regional ministry of culture and tourism was the source of this decision. The festival had relied on support from the Russian Ministry of Culture and regional co-financing in the past, but in the latest year it was not included on the federal ministry’s list of events receiving backing. Consequently, organizers concluded that the festival could not be held in the region without federal assistance, as regional funds alone would not cover the full scale of production, venues, and programming for Edge of the World.
