Dontsova on Readers Across Generations

Public figure and TV presenter Daria Dontsova, whose real name is Agrippina Dontsova, recently shared insights into how modern readers perceive her work. The comments were reported by TASS and reflect a writer who remains engaged with audiences at every stage of life. Dontsova described a reader base that has followed her since the start of her literary career, while also noting an unexpected surge of younger voices in her social networks.

She explained that she was surprised to see a growing number of readers under 30 participating online. Many of these young followers expressed interest in studying the craft on paper, rather than exclusively in digital formats. Dontsova observed a wide readership spectrum, including teenagers aged 13 to 14, as well as a large contingent of mothers and women on maternity leave who engage with her work.

The writer also mentioned that retirees have begun buying online editions because they tend to be more affordable than printed books. Dontsova even noted that her oldest reader is 98 years old, underscoring the breadth of her audience across generations.

Evgeny Solovyov, who heads the action-packed literature department at Eksmo, commented on Dontsova’s multifaceted appeal. He pointed out that roughly 17 percent of her readers are younger than 16, with a similar share spanning ages 16 to 22. An additional slice, about 15 percent, falls into the 22 to 25 range, while around 10 percent of the fan base is between 25 and 35. These figures illustrate a diverse readership that cuts across age groups.

Solovyov offered a perspective on gender distribution as well. He suggested that the female audience is relatively stronger than the male audience, and attributed this to the family-oriented values that permeate Dontsova’s novels. These themes tend to resonate more with women, giving her brand a distinct appeal across generations.

Dontsova also shared a personal writing routine that has contributed to her enduring presence in the literary world. For more than two decades, she has maintained a steady pace, producing a new book each month for 25 years. This consistent output has helped keep her work visible and relevant in a fast-changing market.

In related context, Natalia Gulkina has previously discussed touring experiences in China, highlighting the broader international exposure that contemporary writers may experience. These conversations collectively paint a picture of how writers connect with readers not just within a single country but across borders and cultural contexts, adapting to new audiences as technology and reading habits evolve.
