In an interview conducted by Natalia Salnikova for kp.ru, the lawyer representing Elena Blinovskaya confirmed the mounting financial pressure surrounding the blogger, describing the situation as an ongoing escalation of her debts.
According to Salnikova, Blinovskaya has been unable to satisfy all obligations owed to the Federal Tax Service because most of her assets and bank accounts have already been frozen. The lawyer emphasized that there appears to be no available source from which full repayments could be drawn.
The attorney stated plainly that there is no viable repayment channel at present, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
On January 15, the Telegram channel Mash reported that Blinovskaya’s total debt had risen by 9 million rubles within a short period, bringing the overall amount to 1.418 billion rubles. The report also noted that penalties accruing at a daily rate of 500,000 rubles were being added to the debt as of that time (Mash, kp.ru attribution).
Earlier, on April 27, 2023, Blinovskaya was stopped at the border while attempting to depart the country, holding a ticket to travel abroad. A criminal case alleging tax evasion was opened in connection with that incident, drawing international attention to the case (kp.ru attribution).
By December, the Moscow City Court affirmed the ongoing house arrest, provided that a significant tax liability—amounting to 918 million rubles—was cleared by January 26, 2024 (kp.ru attribution).
Prior to this decision, Blinovskaya had resisted lifting the seizure on her bank accounts, citing a pending legal challenge against the Federal Tax Service as the reason for the continued restrictions (kp.ru attribution).
