Torrevieja is gearing up to host the seventh edition of the Dance Blunt Bodyheld festival, a collaboration with Madrid that expands this year. The event will unfold on June 25 and 26 with a full lineup of free activities, with dance taking over the coast as performances, workshops, interventions, and live improvisations with music fill the streets and venues.
The festival is led by the Torrevieja-based dance company and artistic director Elias Aguirre, with support from Mayda Islas and SNEO Mestizaje. Thanks to the City Council’s backing, the project strengthens the link between Torrevieja and Madrid, aiming to deliver a high-quality program along the coast and to cultivate synergies among towns, creators, and audiences. The organizers note that the 2016 edition first bridged the two cities through Cuerpo Romo, which received broad public and critical support, as reflected in city communications and festival materials.
Dance and Music Carousel
On Saturday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m., in the natural pools area of Paseo Marítimo de Juan Aparicio, the Cuerpo Romo Festival stages a dance and music carousel. The audience will be treated to dynamic street-level dancing that continues late into the night.
An informal Meze performance will blend movement, theater, and the unknown, reflecting the distinctive approach of the performing arts company and its commitment to artistic creation across disciplines.
La Macana returns with Come, a production that has toured globally for more than a decade and earned numerous honors, including the Audience Award and the XXII Critics Award. The show has won recognition at the Madrid Choreography competition and the SGAE Prize at Burgos. La Macana, a Galician ensemble founded in 2009 by Caterina Varela and Alexis Fernández, emphasizes ongoing collaborations and a strong international reach as core pillars of its practice.
The third company to captivate the audience will be Elias Aguirre’s troupe with Flower Heads, premiered at Danza 2021 in Madrid. Aguirre’s work blends contemporary dance with urban styles, gesture theater, and nature-inspired themes, inviting spectators to experience the beauty and fragility of ecosystems.
Niagara by La Intrusa closes the block of performances. This show contemplates themes of falling, loss, and change, guiding audiences toward a space of vulnerability and discovery. La Intrusa is a contemporary creation company with more than twenty years of experience, led by Virginia García and Damián Muñoz.
The artistic dimension will be enhanced by a JAM Impro session featuring live music and dancers, with musician and producer Ed is Dead and Portuguese artist Jorge Da Rocha. The program will run from 9 p.m. onward.
