Street performers festival ARTenBITRIR returns this weekend, March 24, 25 and 26, to celebrate its tenth anniversary by filling Petrer’s old town with color, sound, and energy. Visitors will enjoy a diverse program featuring demonstrations from twenty companies from Spain, Brazil, Belgium and other countries, offering clowning, theatre, puppetry, circus, and music.

The festival’s slogan for this edition, to root, underscores the importance of origins and values that ARTenBITRIR has built on over the years. It is also a tribute to Petrer’s roots and history and highlights many facets of modern traditional culture. The message celebrates the strong value of street art and what it brings to Petrer’s people.

Visitors to the city this weekend will have the chance to see showcases by twenty companies.

Theatre, circus and dance

Three days in the historic center feature fifty performances for all age groups, with many programs especially suitable for children. Standout acts include Teatre Arlequí, a puppet show, Pakí Payá air circus troupe, and Diana Gadish performing Keep Careful, a fusion of dance and clowning.

Friday and Saturday evenings bring a vibrant line-up to the Esplanade El Nano, with performances starting at 22:00. On Friday, March 24, Pico Tres brings pop rock, Pavana Dingo explores mixed fusion, and Gayola delivers punk rock. On March 25, Método Skually performs surf garage, Fuckop Family adds fusioncore, and Hadadanza mixes folk metal. A medieval, folk, and Celtic ensemble closes the festival, and Juglárea from Villena performs on Sunday, March 26 at 19:30.

urban art and graffiti

In addition, several internationally renowned artists will paint three new large walls, adding vibrant color to Petrer’s streets and turning murals into a living movement that reshapes the cityscape. On Saturday afternoon, there will be a guided tour of the city’s murals and graffiti.

Craft

One of the festival’s must-see stops is the Expobitrir craft exhibition, featuring more than twenty stalls where artists create, display, and sell works. This year, a number of regional nonprofit groups will participate to support solidarity projects. Nearby, food trucks return to improve service for exhibitors.

ARTenBITRIR aims to spark surprise and emotion through art, inviting audiences to witness the artist–audience bond up close. All performances are free, with optional voluntary contributions from attendees.
