A lawyer, Sergei Badamshin, said he intends to appeal the Khamovniki Court’s ruling extending the detention period in a terrorism legitimization case involving director Yevgenia Berkovich and playwright Svetlana Petriychuk. The update is reported by a Russian news channel.
“We will appeal,” the attorney stated, confirming the plan to challenge the decision.
According to information circulated on a Telegram channel, the capital’s general jurisdiction court extended the detention of Berkovich and Petriychuk until November 4. The move follows a petition to prolong detention that had been scheduled for consideration, with dates shifting from September 5 to September 6. Earlier, at the end of June, the court extended the director and playwright’s arrest until September 10. The investigation has also appointed a psychological and linguistic examination to be conducted by a Federal Security Service unit located in the Sverdlovsk region, as part of the procedure.
In another development, a former member of parliament suggested banning the film Barbie in Russia due to alleged LGBT propaganda, a statement that drew attention amid broader debates surrounding censorship and cultural restrictions.
