departure from russia

In the early days of the conflict in Ukraine, Alla Pugacheva and her husband Maxim Galkin, who is often described in Russia as a public figure with foreign agent status, left the country with their twins Lisa and Harry, who are now ten years old. They settled for a time in Caesarea, a coastal town near Tel Aviv sometimes likened to Russia’s own high end communities. This move drew sustained media attention in the region.

In September 2022, Galkin was labeled a foreign agent. The authorities asserted he received funds from Ukraine while engaging in political activity. In response, Pugacheva expressed support for her husband and sought to be registered as a foreign agent as well. Reports about her potential inclusion in the register surfaced in April 2024, coinciding with public talk around a biographical project involving a prominent TV figure.

Pugacheva stated that the move began as a period of treatment and rest but eventually extended into an extended stay abroad, with an Israeli passport obtained in May 2022. While abroad, the singer has focused on family life and has occasionally joined performances by fellow artists. Social posts show appearances by Time Machine, Manizhi, Zivert, Valery Meladze and others from her circle.

home visits

Pugacheva’s return to Russia occurred in September 2022 to bid farewell to Mikhail Gorbachev, the first president of the Soviet Union. The farewell ceremony took place in Moscow in the Column Hall of the Assembly of Unions. She laid pink lilies on the coffin and expressed her condolences to relatives. Her social media later reflected a sense of emotional release after a long period marked by upheaval.

The era of new freedoms was acknowledged with a note that the era of the so called Evil Empire was ending. Gorbachev’s approach to power emphasized reducing violence and seeking compromise, a message noted by the singer in subsequent reflections.

Pugacheva returned to Russia again in May 2023 to pay respects to fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin, who was buried at Troekurovsky Cemetery in Moscow. She visited again in November 2023, and the exact purpose of those trips was not fully disclosed. It is widely suggested that matters related to real estate and inheritance were part of the discussions during these visits.

Real estate

Publicly available documents indicate a substantial portfolio of property linked to the couple. Reports from 2022 reference an apartment on Filippovsky Lane in Moscow valued by real estate professionals at roughly 400 million rubles, together with a parking area and another small building, two land plots, and two garages. It is also noted that Galkin owns a castle in Gryaz and a Moscow outskirts apartment, with claims that an apartment on Tverskaya was transferred to their daughter Kristina Orbakaite.

In late 2022 word spread that the castle was being considered for sale at a figure near 1 billion rubles, though broker estimates varied, and the property was described as featuring extensive space, a pool, and subterranean parking. Ongoing costs such as security, pool maintenance, and staff salaries were cited in coverage from the period.

By early 2023 showman Stas Baretsky announced a purchase of the castle for 450 million rubles, though subsequent reporting suggested difficulties with the sale due to tax matters. Meanwhile in Israel, the couple settled in a three story marble residence with panoramic views, a terrace, a pool, and a bomb shelter. News outlets linked the property to a brother of Galkin, Dmitry, as part of the broader family real estate narrative. The couple reportedly also acquired a penthouse in Limassol, Cyprus, valued at around 10 million euros, situated in an elite tower on the city’s waterfront.

Traveling the world

Following their departure from Russia, the pair visited several European locales including Latvia and Cyprus. Reports surfaced suggesting plans to establish a residence in Cyprus and even to pursue schooling for their twins in London, with sources identifying connections to a broader social circle that includes other Russian artists who have spent time in the city.

Maxim Galkin has continued to travel internationally, with trips noted to Israel, Latvia, Turkey, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France and beyond. These movements are often framed within a broader story of personal and family diversification, education opportunities for their children, and the pursuit of a global lifestyle.

Album release and tour

At the start of 2024 Alla Pugacheva released a new album titled PS, a 20 track collection that marked her first release in sixteen years and included material from a Kremlin Palace anniversary concert held in 2019. A European tour was discussed by producer Sergei Dvortsov as part of the broader plan for the year, reflecting a renewed stage presence after a long interval.

Producer remarks indicated an intention to celebrate the artist’s milestone with a tour that would bring performances to multiple European venues. The producer hinted at a birthday event that would be linked to performances alongside peers from various countries. Concert planning also included discussions of practicalities for performances in Germany and other locations, with discussions about pricing and scale. The overarching aim, as described by the producer, centers on showcasing enduring artistry and linking a global audience with a celebrated performer who remains active at age 75.

The release of a new song titled I’m Crying accompanied the run up to her seventy-fifth birthday, with lyrics reflecting themes of love, resilience, and a willingness to confront the passage of time through art.
