More than forty artists from multiple countries participate in the fourth edition of the ALC Videoart Festival, a collaborative video-creation event organized in Alicante. The celebration runs from Wednesday through Monday, May 29, with the newly conceived program anchoring at the Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art, MACA. This year the festival presents 45 works by 43 international authors, showcasing a broad spectrum of approaches to video art.

When people ask what video art is, the answers are layered. It spans experimental cinema, audiovisual installations, digital artworks, and moving images that challenge traditional storytelling. From its earliest moments, the festival has pursued the goal of exploring and sharing the many facets of this contemporary discipline. This year the theme is video art as thought captured in images, inviting viewers to consider how motion pictures can carry ideas and reflections beyond mere narrative.

The event pushes audiences to define the boundaries of video art. What belongs inside and what lies outside its frame? The ongoing debate about definitions is a sign of art’s vitality, and the festival welcomes that mystery. It highlights the vast diversity of artists, techniques, and methods. In this light, video art is best understood as thought manifested through images, a process that invites ongoing interpretation and dialogue.

Therefore, the competition serves the residents of Alicante by offering a wide, enriching perspective on contemporary creation. This international edition presents a more compact but highly curated body of work. The organizers emphasize that the selected pieces maintain exceptional quality while focusing on originality and strong visual and poetic impact across a smaller number of artists than in prior years.

The festival team carefully screened the submissions to present a program that is intense yet precise. Each selected piece is chosen to capture the essence of video art and transport audiences into a world of striking images and thought-provoking moments. When art helps people view the world with fresh eyes, video art becomes a powerful means of emotional and perceptual discovery.
