In Alicante, space is scarce for art, yet creativity blossoms. Artists across the province showcase works with steady momentum, and the Christmas season tends to bring artists together in new ways. Alacant Open Studios marks a weekend of art exhibitions and public sales that will unfold on the following dates: 16 and 17 December.
The initiative, often created in partnership with institutions from other cities, offers a route through the studios of four Alicante artists — Miguel Bañuls, Perceval Graells, Carolina Diego, and Ana Pastor — who will host workshops and exhibit their works. A total of 22 artists participate, with some joining from other parts of the province.
Taking advantage of the Christmas period, the event becomes a unique opportunity to present artworks in a small-format setting, promoting local art as a thoughtful Christmas gift idea. Visitors have a chance to meet the artists and gain insight into their creative processes.
Alacant Open Studios features established names with medium- to long-term careers in the art world. These artists have contributed to collections held by the City Council of Alicante, the Provincial Council, and the Generalitat Valenciana, ensuring the region remains vibrant. The list includes Miguel Bañuls, Pepe Gimeno, Aurelio Ayela, Juan Fuster, Carolina Diego, Ana Pastor, Miriam M. Guirao, Pablo Bellot, Kribi Heral, Luisa Pastor, Juan Fuster Navarro, Lucía Morate, Ignacio Chillón, Perceval Graells, Aurelia Masanet, Mª Dolores Mulá, David Delgado, María Chana, Juan Carlos Nadal, Beatriz Freire, Aurora Domínguez, and Rubén GoMo (Radioboy+).
The works are spread across three studios located in the heart of Alicante, on Teniente Durán, Teniente Aguado, and Marco Oliver streets. The studios are close enough that the farthest sites can be walked to in under twenty minutes.

INFORMATION
Collaborative projects like this demonstrate the value of having artist studios open to the public, especially when opportunities to exhibit are limited. According to María Dolores Mulá and Aurelia Masanet, who describe themselves as artists exploring new spaces after the closure of certain galleries, Ana Pastor notes that this brings renewed life to Alicante’s cultural scene. The city, with a population exceeding 300,000, gains visibility through studio visits that reveal the place where artists create, often sharing space with peers whose studios cannot host exhibitions or are geographically distant.
Perceval Graells is among those who invite other artists to use his workshop, continuing a practice since the studio opened. He has welcomed creators from various disciplines, expanding collaborative opportunities.
David Delgado is another recent participant who has experience organizing group exhibitions in his studio, sharing the space with six other artists as recently as September.
“The aim is to grow studios, artists, the public, and collaborators,” the organizers state, highlighting a desire to amplify the studio ecosystem and nurture lasting connections through shared spaces and events.
