The premiere of the animated movie “Shrek 5” has been postponed by six months, from July 1 to December 23, 2026. This was reported by Deadline.
Instead, Universal Pictures will release the third installment of the Minions cartoon, which was previously only scheduled to be released in June 2027.

Illumination studio also shifted the release date of its yet-to-be-named cartoon from March 19, 2027 to June 30, 2027.
The release of “Shrek 5” is timed to coincide with DreamWorks Animation’s 25th anniversary. It is reported in the media that Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz will reprise their roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona. Shrek series masters Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon will direct.
The cartoon, about the cannibal giant and his sidekick Donkey, was first released on the big screen in 2001 and became one of the highest-grossing films of that year. It also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Since then, the film has been renewed with three more films – the most recent, Shrek Forever After, was released in 2019.
