— When was the program designed? How long did it take you to prepare?
— It’s been almost 10 years since the last concert at the Ermolova Theater – so, one might say, that much time has passed (laughs). And more than preparing the program, I will be as honest with myself as possible and eventually create the music I have always dreamed of playing, to prepare myself for a new era of both life and creativity. To my audience, my current tone of voice is 100% connected to me. So I’m doing everything right.
— When creating the program, did you probably think about who your audience is? To whom do you plan to give “Rodriguez Mood”? Who is your target audience?
— I have been in the Russian entertainment industry for more than 20 years and have managed to do a lot. I think my audience is wide due to this situation. When he turns on the TV or finds himself in the hall at my performance, he is sure that the resulting charge of positive emotions will last for quite a long time! Luckily, kids and adults alike, and even adults, love me! If we talk specifically about my musical incarnation, I think those who, like me, are not alien to personal irony, who like slightly more ornate lyrics, who enjoy the rich sound of wind instruments, when they press the play button I would rather be filled with sunshine than suffer!
— In our show business, you are the embodiment of the term “entertainer”. You sing, you dance, you tell jokes, you host TV shows, you voice over cartoons. In which form do you like yourself the most? So what do you consider your most successful so far?
— I believe that my audience knows better which subject I am more successful at. Plus – I don’t particularly like to talk flatteringly about myself. I feel equally comfortable in each. And whatever I do, I try to do my best. I think the inscription on the tombstone might be impressive (laughs).
—Have you ever wanted to decide just one thing?
“Luckily no one asked me to do this.” And I never really wanted it. I am sincerely interested in everything I do. And I believe that the viewer feels that all this is not for the sake of the golden crust, but for the sake of his love!

“It’s so easy to make bad jokes these days.” Afraid you’ll have to apologize for a joke someone found offensive?
— The present is absolutely terrible! And all because everyone considers himself the right to express his opinion. We are faced with the fact that “doorstep discussions” have become public and doors all over the world have begun to unite. A crowd that wants to attract attention in every way is extremely dangerous. When the desire to receive confirmation of one’s illusory importance is paramount, there can be no talk of humanity, understanding or empathy. It is always easier to condemn than to forgive. It’s easier to label something than to try to get to the bottom of it.
– What should never be joked about?
“Once upon a time you could joke about anything.” Woody Allen, George Carlin, Ricky Gervais, Anthony Jeselnik, Dave Chappelle – people who were not afraid to touch on sensitive topics. At the same time, it’s important to understand that, boldly speaking, none of it is intended to offend. Humor has always been a great way to combat prejudice. Even Stevie Wonder, who is blind, is constantly trolling himself. Perhaps the only person who always went too far and caused me misunderstanding was the French publication Charlie Hebdo.
— Is the audience’s reaction not what you expected?
– Definitely! An artist can never predict 100% whether the audience will like his work. It doesn’t matter if he jokes, dances, sings or talks. Because most of the time the underlying meanings are not read. At least by the majority. And here, in conclusion, you only need to decide for yourself: you work for a mass audience or for someone who will think about it and understand it, but at the same time lose in numbers.
— As an entertainer, you always try to be good and positive. Are you going out in public even though you are “running out of resources”? How will you find the strength to entertain the public if you don’t feel like it?
— My responsibility as an artist is to work at 100, no matter how I feel. It doesn’t matter whether the audience pays for a ticket to my concert or comes for free. Is this a corporate event or charity event? Prestigious public or children. There is no difference. You do not have the right to differentiate the quality of your work based on the importance of the event. If you are an artist, you must be one from A to Z.
— In one of your interviews, you admitted that you wanted to act in a serious movie. Do you keep dreaming about it? Were there such offers?
— Now I’ve started actively participating in the casting and I really like that everything is starting to move in the right direction. Transitioning to a new quality is not a quick process. It is important to find “my” project and show exactly what is not expected from me. Instead of accepting roles that don’t require any transformation.
— This season, you are presenting the program “Brighter than the Stars” on TNT, the new season of “Cities League”, the program “Yoldaş Gezgin” on NTV… Do you need to be different in these programs? Or can you always stay Timur Rodriguez?
— I have to remain myself in each of them. Because I have saved everything needed for these projects for many years! But I am not just the presenter of these projects; For example, I am a person with extensive experience in transformation in “Brighter than the Stars”. In “Union of Cities” he is the owner of a huge witty trunk, and in “Comrade Traveler” he is a professional traveler with a huge list of the most amazing places on the planet.
— “Yoldaş Gezgin” is not the first travel program in which you starred. Can you count how many countries you have visited in the world?
– I’m afraid it will be difficult. But I am confident that I will double this already impressive figure in the coming years.
—What was the most unpleasant thing you had to do on The Fellow Traveler?
— The most annoying thing after any travel itinerary is getting on the scales upon arrival. Because no one has canceled the need to show and taste dishes of different nations. Then we need to arrange unloading for months. And then not even as a relief, but on the contrary, as preparation for the new season.

— Can you name your most memorable trip?
“I can say with secret happiness that the series ‘Comrade Traveler’ makes every trip unforgettable not only for me, but above all for the people I take with me. These are ordinary viewers whose profiles allow me to choose a travel companion and give him great pleasure. And the feelings of my traveling companions are priceless! How their perspective on life, themselves and the goals they set for themselves change after going through this fascinating path! It’s amazing to see them happy!
— You often appear in public wearing rather flashy hats. Do you have a large collection? Do you remember your first hat?
— My first hat was my father’s hat. Naturally, it was too big for me and better suited for home performances. I bought my first hat from my first scholarship, and after the purchase there was only one ruble left. But my joy knew no bounds! It was a luxurious black hat, similar to the hat that my idol Michael Jackson wore on stage and in videos, it was made only in the Moscow region. At the Zavidovo factory! So there was really something to envy (laughs).
