Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld admitted that he once had to quit filming because Will Smith was making a fuss. His words are quoted NME.
The incident occurred while he was working on the first episode of the action comedy film, which was released in 1997. The crew filmed a scene in which Smith drives at high speed with Tommy Lee Jones, and then their car flips over. To film this, the actors were in a sealed capsule.
“I say: “Motorized.” And I hear Will shout: “God, Tommy, forgive me. Baz, get the ladder.” To which Tommy replies: “No problem, Will. Don’t worry,” the director recalled.
When the stairs were brought to Smith and Lee Jones, Lee Jones quickly descended, as the director recalled. It was later revealed that Will Smith had ruined the mood. The director decided to delay the shoot by three hours because “no one wants to sit in a small, confined space while Will Smith farts.”
