Against vandalism, a criminal case was opened under the first part of Article 244 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which concerns desecration of the bodies and burial places of the dead. If convicted, Kirill K. faces a fine of up to 40 thousand rubles. or up to 360 hours of forced labor, or up to one year of correctional labor, or up to three months of arrest.
