On September 22, university student Kirill K. desecrated the grave of KVN presenter Alexander Maslyakov at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow. According to videos posted on Telegram channels, a young man in a blue sweatshirt and jeans removed a wooden cross from Maslyakov’s grave, and then tried to flee the scene on a scooter. The vandal failed to escape: he was detained by cemetery workers and handed over to law enforcement.
According to Telegram channel ShotBefore dismantling the tombstone, the young man distributed flowers and photographs of Maslyakov, and also told the cemetery visitors who tried to stop him that the KVN host “is not worthy to lie here.”

According to eyewitnesses, “When the man was detained, he started shouting at the cemetery workers, saying they had no right to touch him,” the broadcast said.
Against vandalism, a criminal case was opened under the first part of Article 244 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which concerns desecration of the bodies and burial places of the dead. If convicted, Kirill K. faces a fine of up to 40 thousand rubles. or up to 360 hours of forced labor, or up to one year of correctional labor, or up to three months of arrest.
