Moscow Basmanny Court sentenced director Ivan Vyrypaev in absentia to 7.5 years in prison for false reporting about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, TASS reports with reference to law enforcement agencies.

“Vyrypaev was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraph “e” of Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation based on political hatred”), the source said.

The filmmaker will serve his sentence in a colony.

Ivan Vyrypaev is a former director of the Praktika theater, author of the films “Oxygen”, “Euphoria”, author of the collection of short stories “Dance of Delhi”, founder of the Polish production company WEDA. In May 2022, the director announced that he renounced Russian citizenship and received a Polish passport. He no longer lives in Russia.
