Suspects preparing a terrorist attack on American singer Taylor Swift’s concert in Austria were found with explosives and weapons, Bild reported, citing Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
Nehammer confirmed that the terrorist cell was detected just before the Vienna concert.
In an interview with the publication, he said that it was determined that those who planned the terrorist attack had explosives, tools to detonate them and weapons.
“There is a network that is currently being actively investigated and therefore new arrests are occurring,” he explained.
According to Nehammer, the police are now uncovering the suspects’ links to other Islamists. He noted that the technical equipment of the Austrian and German intelligence services needed to be improved in order to combat terrorism – data on the terrorist attack in Austria had to be obtained from the US.
The Chancellor believes that for security reasons it is necessary to give Austrian law enforcement the opportunity to decrypt WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram messengers by court order. He also expressed his hope that Taylor Swift’s concert in Vienna will be postponed to a new date and expressed his desire to attend the show.
Swift planned to perform three concerts in Vienna from August 8-10, with 190,000 tickets expected to be sold. The concerts were postponed due to the threat of a terrorist attack. Cancelled.
Previously reportedIt has been learned that the man who threatened Taylor Swift has been sent to prison until the end of his show in Germany.
