Concert agencies began making deals with Russian artists that forbade them from speaking on political issues during concerts and in some cases even during promotional campaigns. This has been reported RBC.
Eduard Ratnikov, Director General of the international agency TCI, confirmed that such a practice exists. Sergey Babich, director of the Colisium International Music Industry Forum, has highlighted its active distribution in recent months.
By signing such an agreement, the artist undertakes to “avoid any political issues during the concert” and “to disseminate false information about the course of a special military operation in Ukraine by any means, including audio-visual.” It is also forbidden for Ukraine to use state symbols (or “confusingly resembling it”) or other symbols that discredit the Russian military.
According to unconfirmed information from an RBC source, the organizers signed an agreement with some artists to prohibit broadcasting on political topics not only on stage, but also during promotional campaigns or tours – this includes information on social networks, interviews and other materials.
Otherwise, the artist will be fined. At the same time, in some contracts, the amount of the sanction can “bump” the fee. As Ratnikov told RBC, this amount is negotiated individually, but cannot be less than the performance fee.
