New directors were appointed to three capital theaters. Vladimir Mashkov headed Sovremennik, Evgeny Gerasimov became the artistic director of the Moscow Academic Theater of Satire, and the Roman Viktyuk Theater came under the leadership of Konstantin Bogomolov. This was reported by the Moscow Ministry of Culture.
All three will retain their current positions as artistic directors: Vladimir Mashkov at Moscow’s Oleg Tabakov Theatre, Evgeny Gerasimov at Malaya Ordynka Theatre, and Konstantin Bogomolov at Malaya Bronnaya Theatre.
According to the Minister of the Moscow Government, Alexei Fursin, head of the capital’s Department of Culture, meetings of managers with theater groups will be held in the near future.
He also expressed his gratitude to former theater presidents for the work done in difficult times.
The press service of the capital’s Ministry of Culture noted that a suitable director has been selected for the leading theater in Moscow – a talented actor, director and theater manager with an indomitable character and a firm will. Galina Borisovna Volchek was the same.
Commenting on the appointment of Evgeny Gerasimov, the department recalled that the Satire Theater was the first theater to which Gerasimov was invited after graduating from the Shchukin School. Later he was linked by friendship with Alexander Shirvind.
Konstantin Bogomolov, who came to the Bronnaya Theater in 2019, has proven himself to be an effective manager and creative leader over the years, repeatedly improving all performance indicators of the theater and making it one of the most visible and popular places in the cultural sphere. Moscow Ministry of Culture added.
Vladimir Mashkov stated that there is still a lot of work to be done. He emphasized that the Oleg Tabakov Theater and Sovremennik are connected by the same period, the names, meanings and tasks of the same creators.
His plans include the development of Russian psychological theater.
“Theatre needs to keep its finger on the pulse of the age. And psychological theater is a theater whose center is and will always be the artist,” Mashkov shared.
Konstantin Bogomolov said that he plans to make the Roman Viktyuk Theater a point of attraction for Muscovites and guests of the capital.
Evgeniy Gerasimov said that as artistic director of “Satire,” he plans to stage “The Marriage of Figaro” among the first stagings.
Additionally, the Ministry of Culture decided to incorporate the stage of the former Vsevolod Meyerhold Center on Novoslobodskaya into the Moscow Jewish Theater “Shalom”. The Moscow Puppet Theater will be merged with the Moscow Open Puppet Theatre, which came under the control of the capital at the beginning of this year.
