The film Anora, directed by Sean Baker, received the Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
The film tells the story of a Brooklyn prostitute who manages to marry Vanya, the son of a Russian oligarch. The young wife’s parents are trying to dissolve their son’s marriage after learning about their bride’s origin.
The main male roles in the film were played by Russian actors Yura Borisov (one of the oligarchy’s father’s men), Mark Eidelstein (the oligarchy’s son), and actress Daria Ekamasova played the role of the wife and mother of an entrepreneur from Russia.
The film emerged as the winner of the main competition, beating out Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” Paolo Sorrentino’s “Partenope” and Kirill Serebrennikov’s “Limonov, Eddie’s Song.”
Lately reported“Anora” received a 7.5-minute standing ovation after its premiere in Cannes. The film was accompanied by applause not only at the end of the broadcast, but also many times throughout the two-hour film.
