The screenings of the films “The Sun” and “Fairy Tale” directed by Alexander Sokurov in Minsk were cancelled. This was reported on the Facebook page of the Falcon Club cinema, where screenings were supposed to take place (the owner of the company Meta is known as an extremist and is banned in Russia),

The message stated that the cancellation was due to technical reasons.

Screenings of the films “The Russian Boy” by Sokurov and his student Alexander Zolotukhin were planned for March 11-13. The director expressed his disappointment at the cancellation of the screenings and said that the decision was unfounded.

Alexander Sokurov expressed hope that local filmmakers will be able to seize the opportunity to present their works to the public.

The film “Fairy Tale” tells the story of the meetings in the afterlife of Stalin, Churchill, Hitler and Mussolini, where each speaks his own language. The director describes the work in the film as magnificent and fantastic and points out that this is a new genre for him.

The Sun, which was released in 2005, is about the last days of World War II and Japanese Emperor Hirohito.

Sokurov’s films were criticized by the TV presenter of the state channel STV Grigory Azaryonok. He accused the director of opposing the Union State and expressed his negative attitude towards his work.

Early in the festival in Switzerland I decided to show A film by a Chechen director.
