Miura added that the Japanese are not boycotting Russian culture. According to him, Russian literature is studied more in Japan than in other parts of the world. Miura stated that the interest of Japanese citizens in Russian classics is a tradition, noting that some Russian authors are included in the list of compulsory reading works in Japanese schools.
“I communicate with cultural figures and they really appreciate Russian music, literature and art. “There is no one among my friends who would not love all this,” said the director.
He came to Russia to stage the play “The Cherry Orchard” at the estate of director Chekhov. Miura admitted that he plans to bring Russian vodka, black caviar and food gifted to him at the Theater of Nations to his hometown.
