On the Yasnaya Polyana museum grounds, writer Leo Tolstoy’s famous “sweatshirt” blouse will be restored for a permanent exhibition. According to this TASS Citing the museum’s press service,
“Leo Tolstoy’s blouse, which is on open display in the writer’s bedroom, will undergo restoration this year. The famous sweatshirt required semi-dry cleaning and antiseptic treatment, the museum said.
Specimens in need of restoration are selected from the museum collection each year, and experts are hired to work with them competitively.
“It is impossible not to say that the writer’s followers, following their idols, began to wear similar blouses, which became known as sweatshirts even during the writer’s lifetime. “A total of 5 Tolstoy blouses were kept in the Yasnaya Polyana house,” the museum said, adding that the blouse in the bedroom was linen, had mother-of-pearl buttons and had a pen pocket sewn on the inside.
A total of 17 items from the Yasnaya Polyana museum-estate collections will be restored in 2024, including the receipts and account book of Tolstoy’s wife Sophia.
