The Sant Joan National Short Film Competition has once again surpassed a thousand entries that will compete for awards at the XXIV Sant Joan Film Festival, scheduled to be held between 21-27 April 2024. Registrations on accredited platforms such as Festhome, Movibeta and Clickforfestivals closed with 1,097 registrations; This figure shows the trust many filmmakers have in the festivalManufacturers and distributors from all over Spain.
However, the Sant Joan Film Festival, supported by the Department of Culture of the Sant Joan d’Alacant City Council and eligible for the Goya Awards, is keeping the deadline open until March 15 to continue registration only for short films affiliated with the municipality. A donation of 500 euros was made to this new local category, whose works will compete for the new Ficus Palomitas prizeThe award will be given by Cultura Sant Joan d’Alacant to the best work depicting scenes taken in the municipality or with the participation of natural or legal persons, residents of the municipality.
To compete in this category, the theme is free and the works must be produced after January 1, 2022. Unfinished works will not be taken into account and the maximum duration of the films will not exceed 30 minutes. Audiovisual works with technical deficiencies will be rejected. Sant Joan d’Alacant Film Festival is renewing its participation conditions for its next edition. In addition to the best domestic short film category, the family section consisting of short films participating in the competition was also created for all audiences.The winner will receive Ficus GominolaS worth 500 euros.
Selected short films will be screened in Casa de Cultura’s renovated Antonio Gil auditorium during five sessions of the festival week. All selected short films will be evaluated by the festival jury and will be awarded the Ficus de Oro Sant Joan d’Alacant for the best work worth 2,000 euros., Ficus de Plata Nos Movemos worth 500 euros for the best work on a social and environmental theme, and Ficus de Plata UMH worth 600 euros for the best work in film schools.
