Almost 70% of Russian residents surveyed by VTsIOM supported the decision of bookstores not to sell the works of writer Boris Akunin (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) due to his statements in support of Ukraine and its armed forces. The results of the telephone survey of 1.6 thousand participants were published on: Web site VTsIOM.
According to the results of the research, 23 percent of Russians have read Akunin’s books and the same number of people have watched films adapted from the author’s works. 57% of respondents said they were unfamiliar with Akunin’s work. Of those who have read or heard the book, 34 percent know that Akunin supports Ukraine and transfers money to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 26 percent have heard something, and 40 percent do not know anything about it.
The refusal of bookstores to sell Akunin’s works and the refusal of publishing houses to print them is supported by 69% of respondents, 11% consider such a decision to be quite wrong, and another 8% think it is completely wrong.
