Director Antoine Fuqua (“My Name is Muhammad Ali”) will helm a biopic about pop singer Michael Jackson, scheduled to premiere April 18, 2025. This was reported by Variation.

The star’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will play the main role in the upcoming film. The name of the movie was “Michael”. It will talk about the King of Pop’s triumphs and tragedies and offer “an honest portrait of a brilliant but complex man.” The biopic was produced by Graham King, who won an Oscar for The Departed and was nominated for Bohemian Rhapsody. Gladiator creator John Logan will write the script of the film.

Variety emphasizes that the film will be produced by Jackson’s producers, John Branca and John McClain. The publication suggests that their involvement could influence how the film portrays the events surrounding the singer’s accusations of child sexual abuse. The artist himself maintained his innocence throughout his life, and in 2003 the court found him not guilty.

“Michael” will be distributed domestically by Lionsgate and worldwide by Universal. Shooting is scheduled to begin on January 22.
