behind the choirs

There is a big journey behind the three groups that will participate in the Alicante City Choral Meeting this Sunday. The University of Alicante has had a choir for more than 25 years, but the current choir model was created in the 2007/2008 academic year. It combines the pedagogical and musical education of its members and the reflection of this learning in both concerts and academic events. As such, it falls within the scope of the Vice-Rector’s Culture, Sports and University Publications Department. It has various goals based on learning and enjoying singing. Its primary goals include educating its members on the different aspects of a choir on both a musical, social and cultural level, as well as participating and collaborating musically in UA’s academic and corporate events and concerts. It’s been planned since college. In addition, This is about encouraging participation in national and European competitions, as well as exchanges with other choirs.. Shlomo Rodríguez has been the musical director since the 2016/2017 academic year.

Alicante University Choir during a performance INFORMATION

Coral L’Alfàs Canta was born in 2010 from the enthusiasm and passion for choral singing with the aim of improving unity and relationships between people through music. Its forty voices consist of more than ten nationalities. He is supported by the L’Alfàs del Pi City Council, of which he is the ambassador. Among his participation it is worth highlighting the International Spanish-Norwegian Week; Held at the Cathedral Basilica of Santa María de la Asunción in Segorbe; Requena Harvest Festival or Lescar International Musical October Festival (France).

For its part, historyAlicantina Tabaquera Coral is older. It dates back to May 20, 1844, when a terrible fire broke out in the Alicante tobacco factory. It quickly covered the facility, which employed more than 3,000 workers. These workers prayed to the Mercy of the Holy Face and miraculously managed to save their lives. Since then, the Holy Mass has been celebrated every year in the Monastery of the Holy Face. Factory workers who joined these masses in 1982 decided to organize as a chorus and handed over the management of the group to Carlos Catalá. The newly established choir gives its first concert together at the factory site. Since then, all kinds of actions have been carried out: solemn liturgies (V Centenary of the Blessed Face, Papal Coronation of Our Lady of the Cure), important commemorations (Fiftieth Anniversary of ONCE, V Centenary of the city of Alicante, beauty of the focus. ..); choir meetings organized by the Generalitat Valenciana; even national and international competitions.
