Artist Roberto Ruiz Morante (Colonia de Santa Eulalia, Sax, 1941- Alicante 2006) demonstrated drawing skills from an early age. In 1952, ahead of his time and because of his great talent, he entered the New Professional School of Fine Arts in Alicante.It was directed by painter José Pérez Gil.
In 1957, he attended the first National Dormitory of Plastic Arts in Navacerrada and Madrid on a scholarship. In the same year, he received the first prize in the painting and sculpture categories at the Provincial Competition. In the 70s he co-owned a Fine Arts store on Calle Mayor.. In 1989 he opened the Ruiz Morante Gallery on Juan de Herrera Street. Moreover, he considered himself a big fan of the work of Xavier Soler and his friend Gastón Castelló.
He mainly dealt with oil painting and watercolor. Roberto Ruiz Morante’s painting was figurative. After successfully exhibiting in Madrid, he did not want to leave his city and represented the neighborhoods and corners of the capital of Alicante in his paintings. He also painted numerous portraits of the mayors of Alicante in the antechamber of the Blue Room of the City Hall; and presidents of the College of Physicians, who hang on the walls of the college’s headquarters.
