Alexander Levenbuk, founder and long-time artistic director of the Moscow Jewish Theater Shalom, has died. It was reported that the 90-year-old People’s Artist of Russia passed away TASS Referring to the statement of Alexander Brod, member of the Russian Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights.
“Tonight, People’s Artist of Russia, founder of Shalom Theater Alexander Levenbuk passed away at the age of 91,” he said.
Brod recalled that Levenbuk was the permanent host of “Baby Monitor” for many years.
“I taught the children of the Soviet Union not only the rules of the Russian language. He taught goodness and humanity. “His name has become part of Russia’s history and culture,” he said.
Levenbuk, who started working on stage as a director with the writer Arkady Khait in the 1980s, wrote “A Nice Word for a Cat” and “Is There an Extra Ticket?” presented his productions.
From 1988 to 2021 he was the president and performer of the Moscow Jewish Theater Shalom, where he also performed as an actor. He played in the plays “Magical Theatre”, “Yankel, Take and Kadir”, “Sevela’s Novels”.
