Golden Globes They are trying to get out of the critical situation they have experienced in recent years.. Now, after the NBC network refused to air the awards live, CBS will be the one to include them in the schedule on Sunday, Jan. 7, set by organizers, as they represent a return to normalcy and prestige. They always have, in one way or another, and they continue to be seen as the prelude to the Oscars. Everything seems to indicate that we can follow them here on Movistar Plus+.
Many issues stand out in this year’s film candidates. One of these is, of course, ‘The Snow Society’ in the category of non-English films. Yes, it’s a tough challenge because it competes with the latest films of Aki Kaurismäki, Jonathan Glazer, Justine Triet and Matteo Garrone that are celebrated in Cannes or Venice. Juan Antonio Bayona’s film will be released in Spain this Friday‘Anatomy of a Fall’ was released on December 6 and the other three will be released between the end of this month and the beginning of January.
Another thing that draws attention, although not exactly a surprise, is the number of nominations that ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ have accumulated. Two big winners at the box office: Between the two there is already a worldwide collection of €2,230 million, which is a real disgrace. ‘Barbenheimer’ does not calm down! Greta Gerwig’s film received nine nominations, just one more than Christopher Nolan’s. And since “Oppenheimer” is competing in the drama category, both could win the main prize — along with Scorsese’s “The Moon Killers” and Glazer and Triet’s film doubling the non-speaking movie category. English is another tough challenge – and ‘Barbie’ is in the comedy category.
As a comedy, perhaps the only thing that can eclipse it, though not literally, is ‘Poor Creatures’, a whimsical re-reading of the Frankenstein myth in female form, directed by Greek Yorgos Lanthimos. It is an Irish production and stars Emma Stone.
‘Poor Creatures’ and ‘Moon Killers’ are the other films that started with a certain advantage with seven nominations. In the supporting actor category, the former is represented twice (Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo) and the latter by Robert De Niro, but it would also be strange if the ironic Ryan Gosling of ‘Barbie’ did not win this award. Emma Stone is also a favorite for comedy and musicals; Lily Gladstone from Scorsese’s film may surprise, courtesy of the excellent Carey Mulligan from ‘Maestro’.
new reward
This year, they have introduced a new reward that will probably be necessary during periods of increased demand for movie theaters: the one with the best box office. Anything other than ‘Barbie’ or ‘Oppenheimer’ winning would be just as surprising, but there are decent dividends from ‘John Wick 4’ or ‘Super Mario Bros: The Movie.’
When it comes to television series, ‘Succession’ appears once again with its final seasonThe series compete with ‘The Crown’ or ‘The Last of Us’ in the dramatic category, while ‘The Bear’ and ‘Just the Murders in the Building’ stand out in the comedy category. The pitch-black ‘Fargo’, which is in the fifth film of this anthology adapted from the Coen brothers’ film of the same name, is one of the privileged mini-series.
